Nepenthes veitchii Bareo, BE-3734
This Bornean species produces magnificently shaped flared peristomes on robust pitcher bodies with colors ranging from deep brown to pink to candy cane striped. These plants are a horticultural cross between 2 Bareo striped forms at Borneo Exotics, BE-3734. We've found the plants to exhibit a range of coloration in pitcher coloration and morphology. We have noticed that veitchii can be somewhat of a chameleon when young and can exhibit more striping and coloration as they mature. For example, the best colored veitchii in our collection named "Pink Candy Cane" actually did not exhibit striping until it was 12 inches across.
If we had to pick a favorite species of carnivorous plant then Nepenthes veitchii would certainly be in the running. Most veitchii in cultivation are descendants of plants found at intermediate elevations. However, we have found that veitchii is very tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and have grown them well in our lowland, intermediate and highland houses. We've found that veitchii really prefers good drainage and we recommend using an open mix with net pots.
Note: All photos are from the same grex as BE-3734 but are not necessarily the same clone that will be received. Most clones are striped and some are golden. However, these all achieve the squat proportions at maturity that many deem desirable.
This product is considered a Intermediate Tropical plant. Please see our Shipping and Guarantees policy for cold/hot weather shipping guidelines.
